If you knew that you only had a week to live, what would you wish for and what are the things you would do to make your last days memorable?
Most people would say that they would travel to as many places as possible or cross things off their bucket list. Others would wish to spend their remaining days with their loved ones or seek forgiveness for the sins or wrongdoings they’ve done in the past.
A Texas man named Richard Ewers was told that he only had a week to live. A couple of years ago, Richard had made it his mission to rescue every stray and abandoned dog that he could find. Ever since he started his mission, Richard had rescued and found loving forever homes for countless dogs in Texas.
Even when Richard was diagnosed with cancer, the only thing that he could think and worry about were the dogs. Richard didn’t care about what happened to him. All he wanted was to continue rescuing dogs and finding forever homes for them.
Richard’s love for these animals is unparalleled. His dedication even showed when he was already in hospice care. His last wish was that the 11 remaining dogs in his care should each find a forever home with a loving family. All he wanted was that the dogs he took in would get a second chance in life.
When people learned that Richard was taken into hospice, they started helping him care for the dogs. Volunteers and donors stepped in to care for the dogs and even went as far as finding families willing to take them in.
The local community started working so hard to give the 11 dogs a chance and make Richard’s wish come true. The volunteers stated that the dog’s living conditions weren’t ideal and that they would need fosters to care for the dogs. Here’s a video featuring Richard Ewer’s story and how his last wish inspired so many people to help.
