Three years ago, this pooch named Shakes became an honorary K-9 officer with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. While the title carries great responsibility, the dog sure knows how to carry out his mandate. This honorary membership, though, did not come in a silver platter. Instead, the people who bestowed the membership to Shakes saw something special in the pooch.
Before he received this accolade, the dog experienced several obstacles that his age could not have survived. But since he is tough, Shakes was able to overcome all those. The dog was previously a stray and abandoned dog, which forced him to live in poverty. His life was like this for over five years before he got rescued by volunteers from the Florida Keys Animal Shelter.
The volunteers immediately fell in love with the pooch because of his innate sweetness. According to the volunteers, it was impossible not to be in love with the adorable pooch. For one, Shakes embodies the traits of an ideal pet.
Although the pooch suffered from cerebellar hypoplasia, Shakes never let this condition hinders him from being a good dog. His health may be disadvantageous to him, but the dog knows how to control it.
Jenna Moeller eventually decided to foster the dog. Jenna works as a sheriff, so she thought of training the pooch and become a K-9 officer under her watch. Despite the dog’s condition, Jenna felt proud when Shakes finished all the requirements to be a K-9 officer. Shakes underwent a series of training to determine whether he was cut out for the job.
While the series of training was challenging, but Shakes managed to pull through. With this kind of attitude, Jenna knows that the pooch would be a great K-9 officer. Jenna promised that she would guide the pooch in this kind of work.
