Working at an animal shelter exposes a person to many sad stories concerning dogs. You see homeless canines who have gone through many difficulties in life, and there are also pets that have been neglected and abused. Then you come across the occasional dog that has lived a long time with their family, giving all their love and faithfulness, only to be discarded in their twilight years.
The director of the Humane Society of Crawford County, a loving lady named Victoria Carmean, was heartbroken and disappointed when she met Jake, a 16-year-old Collie. The sweet pooch was surrendered to the shelter by his owners after he spent all his life living with them, and considering them as his family.
The reason the owners gave is that they don’t have any time for him anymore.
Timid and scared
Jake was visibly confused about his situation. He was anxious and stayed in one place. Victoria realized that the Collie was scared, so she placed him in the quietest section in their facility.
As the shelter director looked at the senior pooch, she couldn’t prevent her tears from flowing. Victoria couldn’t understand how someone could simply discard a member of their family. She became determined to find jake a home at the soonest time possible.
New hope
Victoria immediately got in touch with all her contacts. She called charity rescue groups and avid dog lovers. Within two hours, an animal charity organization called her and gave some good news. They found a loving family that wanted to adopt Jake.
Two ladies from the animal organization arrived later that day to pick up Jake and they became very emotional when they met the senior pooch. They were so sad to learn his story, and one of the women tightly hugged the dog. Before leaving, they assured Victoria that Jake would live the rest of his life in a home that would shower him with love.
