Although it is surely not uncommon to hear about pets being abandoned and left to fend for themselves, this does not make each story any less heartbreaking. This is Blue Bayou’s story. The dog’s owner abandoned her in a horrible manner and she chose to stay at an auto shop because she believed that her owners were coming back for her soon.
Hope For Paws, a non-profit animal rescue organization, got a message about Blue Bayou. They were informed that the dog had been in the shop for eight months after her owner abandoned her.
Upon learning she was alone, rescuers JoAnn Wiltz and Katie McKittrick rushed to the shop to get her. As anticipated, gaining her trust was difficult, so they pushed themselves harder to ensure that the dog was rescued.
As the rescuers attempted to entice her with food, they observed that there was asphalt in the area. They were concerned that the hot weather would cause the asphalt to melt and burn the dog’s paws. However, it was difficult to relocate her to a safer location because she was scared of being rescued and even hid beneath a trailer. Seeing her with a face so full of sorrow broke their hearts, especially since they’re having a difficult time saving her.
They reassured the dog that she no longer had anything to fear. She calmed down prior to being loaded into the crate, indicating that she understood their intentions to be positive. Given that the rescuers did not give up on her, it was not surprising that they were finally able to successfully remove her from the shop.
A man named Andrew Rosenthal then trained her to socialize with other dogs at LA Dogworks, Hollywood, where she was subsequently brought. LA Dogworks is a 24-hour care center for dogs.
When Blue Bayou was ready for the real world, she was taken to a shelter named It’s The Pits, where she anxiously awaits adoption by a loving family.
